I’m getting a kick out of now being able to open my Spotify App, search #MedComms and find a playlist especially for us! Listening to it now. Great idea from the team at Oxford PharmaGenesis who collected contributions throughout the #MedComms Day 2021.
The team from Prime Global share their top ten reasons to work in #MedComms. They write: “From building lasting relationships with clients to the variety of therapy areas, med comms is a brilliant industry”.
Thanks Penny Gray for taking a break from your freelance medical writing and dropping by for a quick coffee. And, yes there was cake! There can never be too much cake. Socially distanced and wearing our special #MedComms face masks when not eating and drinking – happy days!
Join us at 12.00 BST for another of our regular free #MedComms webinars. Everyone’s welcome.

The MedComms sector is thriving. If anything the COVID-19 pandemic has shone a bright spotlight on the need for accurate, timely scientific exchange and how MedComms specialists can play a pivotal role in facilitating that activity. In this webinar we are joined by representatives from McCann Health Medical Communications. Charlie Buckwell (Global President), Faye Daley (HR Coordinator and Lead for their Mental Health First Aiders programme), Folabomi (Bomi) Oladosu (Medical Writer and Member of their D&I Council) and Michael Stevinson (Global Head of Caudex) will reflect on the journey that MedComms has taken to where we are today and discuss current priorities and ponder future opportunities.
Questions from the audience will be welcomed.
It should be of interest to anyone working in and around MedComms.
The webinar is free of charge and, all being well, a recording will be posted afterwards at NetworkPharma.tv.
The North West London local meet-up of freelancers is wrapping up.
Cheers to another successful year, as freelancers on #MedComms Day celebrate at a Harrow restaurant in London!

A message here from aging rocker, John Gonzalez of Solanum Medical Communications (no, I’m not jealous!)
It’s been a tough day trying to concentrate on an assignment I am working on, my ears are still ringing with the sound of rock and roll from last night. Along with some other 50,000 fans and my concert buddy, who incidentally works in pricing and market access, we went to see the Rolling Stones at the Old Trafford Stadium Manchester last evening. After over 50 years of touring, Mick Jagger and co-workers can still draw crowds, fill a stadium and BTW it’s not just ageing rockers that attend. How can they still do this in 2018?. Well charisma, great songs, skilled musicians and a stunning show is probably the answer.
You’re probably thinking what on earth has this got to do with MedComms? What occurred to me last evening were the parallels with organising a successful satellite symposium or conference i.e. when the event you have organised fills the auditorium or congress room and there are no seats left. So what get you this level of success? Charismatic and expert speakers with great presentation skills, interesting content that will resonate with the audience and finally, excellent delivery and organisation of the event. I would say no different to a great rock concert. And to any of you Stones fans out there in the MedComms world “Its only rock and roll but we love it”!
Corinne Swainger is a freelance medical copywriter, and organises regular local meet-ups for other MedComms freelancers and remote workers living in and around North West London. They’re meeting tonight to celebrate MedComms Day, so I’m hoping for more pictures!
Greetings from sunny Middlesex, in the suburbs of Greater London! As an independent medical copywriter, I love the diverse challenges that freelance life gives me, but like any other business, I still need to dedicate some essential time to focus my professional marketing plan. It was half-term last week, so I took some time off to assess my current and future business situation. During the past 12 years since I kicked off my freelance scientific career, pharmaceutical-healthcare communications have changed rapidly, which means I’ve had to adjust too, or risk getting left behind. While I’m looking to stay freelance in the future, I’m keen to find out what new marketing options are out there for small businesses like me. So, I’m talking to various colleagues inside and outside the industry for their thoughts before I take my next steps.
As part of these changes, today, I’m been tweaking the logo for my MediQuill Ltd, and updating my professional LinkedIn profile. I’m also investigating whether I want to specialise on a more niche healthcare market. For example, in recent years, I’ve focused more on devising medical promotions and medical education for primary healthcare professionals and patients, rather writing abstracts and clinical research reviews for secondary care. I’ve also branched out into creating medical education and promotions for medical devices, so today, I’m considering if, and how I could offer more specific services to those types of clients.
Finally, I’m definitely looking forward to catching up with a few other freelancers this evening to celebrate MedComms Day in our own way, at our local freelancers meet-up. Cheers!

A brief reminder that MedComms Day 2018 is being sponsored by Concise (thanks again, guys). Caroline Buttery, their Head of BD and Marketing, has just written in to support the importance of cake in agency life, which is currently getting a lot of mentions over on Twitter! Of the many that have made an appearance on the #MedComms twitter stream so far today, I think we have to agree theirs is the best iced cake so far, but we’ve a long day ahead of us still…
This year we are delighted to have been supported by Concise who are running an online quiz throughout the day – be sure to be a winner.
